Mimi Wellisch, Director of Clever Kids Consultancy, is a registered psychologist with the NSW Psychologists Registration Board (Psych Reg. no PS0085101), and has a Graduate Diploma of Psychology and a Post Graduate Diploma of Psychology.
Mimi is also a qualified early childhood teacher. She entered the teaching profession as a mature student, having discovered an interest in her own children's educational experiences. Mimi has taught in many areas of early childhood over a 25 year period, including in a multi-cultural long day care centre, preschools both in Sydney and country NSW, and in well-to-do as well as low socio-economic settings.
Over time Mimi became passionate about gifted children and their lack of opportunities, and upgraded her teaching degree to a Master in Early Childhood (Macquarie), with a research thesis on early childhood teacher attitudes to young gifted children.
Mimi's has found that her unique combination of early childhood and psychology background is particularly helpful in the identification of gifted children as well as the additional problems they may encounter.
She is the published author of four books on early childhood activities as well as a booklet on the effects of television violence. She has presented numerous papers at conferences and is the published author of journal articles in the areas of her interests and research activities. Mimi is also a workshop trainer. More recently, she has been engaged to present behaviour management, strength-based programming, play, literacy and other workshops for the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER).
Mimi's latest interest in coaching adults finally saw her completing a professional development course at Sydney University on evidence-based coaching in 2006.
Other interests include early reading, environmental education, conflict resolution, media violence and its influence on young children's perception of the world, social skills, behaviour management and the education of gifted and talented children.
Mimi's has worked with her husband Viggo Knackstredt, who is an architect, on a number of early childhood projects.
