Coaching Sessions

Assessment

As a coach I need to establish where you are at in terms of any issues and needs. A quick way of doing this is through self-assessments. Before the first session, I will ask you to fill out Emotional Intelligence assessments, a Personality Assessment, and an assessment of your current emotional status. These tools will help me coach you appropriately, and also troubleshoot for possible problems that may have to be sorted prior to any coaching.

If you are wondering about your IQ and want to know whether you are intellectually gifted, I can also administer an IQ test for an additional fee, as I am a registered psychologist.

Initial session

During the first session we come to an agreement about the goal we are aiming for. This session could be quite long, possibly 1 ½-hours or more, because we need to get to know each other and we need to drill down to the goal.

Subsequent sessions

...do not take so long and can be as brief as half an hour.

Each time we meet we review your progress and work on the issues that have come up as well as examine your successes. We then set some achievable goals for the following session, and you work on achieving these during the interim time.

Problems

The process of change will inevitably throw up some problems. As the coaching moves on, we will uncover what may have held you back in the past, or perhaps a relatively unrelated issue. These problems will be dealt with during sessions and may form part of the goals to be achieved prior to the next session.

Making changes

Making changes requires your genuine willingness to carry out the agreed tasks that will take you where you want to go.

Changes will lead to a number of emotions that we will face together and work through.

Some of these emotions will take place due to realisations encountered by the client on their way to their goal. For example, most of us have a picture of ourselves and how we are. Most of us also have an idea of how we would rather be. And sometimes we think of ourselves as the latter, rather than how we actually appear in the eyes of others. These discrepancies may come up during the course of coaching.
