Coaching

You have probably heard about Life Coaches and have wondered why anyone would need one. The answer is that if you have had a secret dream or desire in your heart for years but never set about to achieve it because you

  • Weren’t quite sure exactly what you wanted to do
  • Thought you lacked the skills
  • Were scared you would fail
  • Didn’t know anyone who could help you get there
  • Didn’t think you could study
  • Thought you would do it sometime in the future (but have not planned it into your life in the near future)

...or any one of these points above, then coaching is for you!

So what IS coaching?

Before looking at that, let us look at what coaching IS NOT:

Although I am a registered psychologist (Psych Reg. no PS0085101), and have a Professional Development Certificate in Evidence Based Coaching (2006), it has to be said up front that coaching is not therapy, and will not address clinical problems. If it becomes clear during the course of coaching that progress is hampered due to a psychological issue, I will recommend that you see an appropriately qualified therapist who specialises in your area of need.

Coaching is also not about giving over the responsibility for progress to a coach. In fact, a signed agreement will detail that the client is responsible for any progress, based on the reasoning that you have willingly made a decision to enhance your life.

The coaching sessions take place within a relationship based on a client working together with me in a solution-focused manner (actively searching out solutions) that will bring about the required changes and end in the sought-after results in a systematic manner.
